Flowers and plants have been a recurring subject matter throughout my photographic practice and I have been heavily influenced by early botanical illustration, and photographers who approach still life floral photography in a clinical, scientific manner. Through studying flowers and plants within my practice, I have grown an interest in their significance, and issues regarding nature and the environment.
In my current project, I am exploring issues of genetic modification and the process of cross breeding plants. My intent is to portray this through my own photographic representations of ‘hybrid’ plants which I will create by dissecting and photographing sections of various plant specimens, then combining these sections of different plants together in Photoshop to create my own hybrid species of plants. As this is a series in progress my work will be uploaded throughout the upcoming months leading up to the exhibiton.
